Fire-retardant sponge, also known as flame-retardant sponge, fireproof cotton, or flame-retardant cotton, is generally a fire-resistant material synthesized from various polyurethane materials with added flame retardants. It is mainly used in furniture manufacturing, massage equipment manufacturing, stroller manufacturing, decoration and renovation, automotive accessories, wall sound absorption, thermal insulation pipes, fire doors, and fireproof roller shutters.

Flame retardants are incorporated into the sponge, directly improving the product's flame retardant and fire-resistant properties. They can absorb heat and decompose into non-flammable substances at or near ignition temperature; they can react with the combustion products of foam to produce non-flammable substances; thus delaying combustion, inhibiting smoke, and causing the fire to self-extinguish.
